Good Bye Gravitational Lensing

Astronomers affiliated with the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Göttingen, Germany have developed a new method for measuring the gravitational pull of distant stars without resorting to the silliness of gravitational lensing. These scientists measure the variability of light emitted from the stars resulting from acoustic oscillation of the plasma within the surface region of the stars. Their technique is similar to the methods used in material rheology experiments in that they draw their conclusions regarding the material properties of the stars from measurements of time scale data of the observable oscillations. This is very good news indeed since it frees astronomy from the incorrect methods based upon general relativity theory used in gravitational lensing. Please read their news report here.
